TARPON TIME NOW! |
|
SHORT AND SWEET FOR ALL YOU TARPON TAMERS OUT THERE
THEY ARE HERE NOW!---Islamorada, bridges and channels and holes are crawling with the silver kings.
been doing tarpon trips since the 30th of March and the fishing has gotten very consistant.
The largest fish LANDED so far has been 135 to 140 pounds and we had 2 others on the end of the string which were considerablely larger--- the pucker factor comes to mind--LOL!
One trip we caught and released 5 so they are here --Lets go gang and strain something.
The backcountry is up and down due to the extreme tides and weather conditions --situation normal for this time of year, we are just moving from our winter fish to our summer stocks so we have to spend more time hunting them up--The snook , redfish and sea trout are stilling there and the bite continues to get better as the conditions get back to normal.
Bones and permit are around and when you get one they are usually a large one.
Large Mangrove Snappers are biting well most days and that tasty morsel makes for good eating in any of our area resturants who will cok them up for you.
Gottago out for my next trip so I will have to cut this short now
To book a trip call toll free 1-888-783-8489
Till the next time --tight lines and happiness

mid feb report |

Hello everyone
Just a quick update on the goings on here in the Islamorada Fishing community.
Just a quick report here today, the fishing as been good
Snook fishing has been fair – up and down really—one day catching big ones, the next very small.
Same with the redfishing—overall we are catching a lot of fish, trout, big black drum, jacks and ladyfish
When the weather is good the Spanish mackerel and tripletail fishing in the gulf has been excellent, there are also some good size mangrove snapper and lanes around out there also.
Tarpon are showing up more and more everyday, the water temperature is just borderline for them to bite—I expect it won’t be too long before they take off----as long as the water temp stays the same or higher.
I am starting a new trip that people have been requesting so starting
March 1st----- EVENING SHARK FISHING-----4-8 pm
It is the same cost as the evening tarpon trips but it will be for sharks [still have a chance to catch a tarpon at the same time]
So let’s hear from you, if you have an idea for a specific type of trip let me know if it is doable I will consider adding it to my list
I still have good dates available so make your reservations –they are going fast— 1-888-873-8489
Let’s go fishing—till next time
Tight lines and let the little ones go!

1 st report for feb |
|
Hello Everyone
Just update time , Jan. was a great month for fishing here in Islamorada, Florida Keys.
The weather for the most part has been more like late spring then winter.
The one bad cold front we had which killed quite a few fish was the only one.
We had just 2 windy days and after that it was beautiful.
The fishing has been excellent also, we have been catching everything--Snook, Redfish, Sea Trout, Drum, ladyfish, snappers ,Jacks, the list is just to long to keep writing here --give me a call for a more specific report.
The Snook season is still closed till march 1st despite the rumors otherwise that it opens today.
There are some big Snook out there , we had 2 yesterday the measured 33 and 31 inches along with 10 other snook of various sizes, also 7 redfish, 16 sea trout, 9 jacks --a great florida keys fishing trip.
Out in the gulf of mexico we have been doing well with the Spanish macks and also catching mixed in some trout , cobia and Triple Tail off the crab pots.
Closer to home the Mangrove snappers have been biting with some really large ones mixed in sometimes.
The Bonefish have been up and down but when you get one it is quite often a large one 10 pounds or better ,it is that time of the year the really big ones are around.
OK, OK been getting quite a few requests for tarpon well I am happy to say that if things stay the way they are now it looks like it will be an early season, I am seeing more and more tarpon everywhere I go but the water temperture is still to low for any kind of consistant bite but they are definetly showing up so it will not be much longer --we will have to see what that gopher says tomorrow morning--LOL!
Bookings are starting to fill in for April, May and June so if you are making plans for a charter ,you should start to think about making a reservation soon.
Call Toll Free---1-888-783-8489
Till the next report and I will try to make them more regular

warming up fast |
|
The Holidays are over and I must say the fishing matched the weather--FANTASTIC!
We caught just about everything over the 10 days from Tarpon to Spanish Mackerel to bonefish and snook ,redfish, sea trout , pompano and permit the list is just too long to keep writing it was fantastic.
Now the flip side, we had the coldest front get here on the 2nd of 08 and it got cold down to 41 degrees on Wednesday and the water temp dropped rapidly shutting down just about everything and yes the wind blew also 30 knots and then a bit more .
I fished yesterday a 3/4 day and slow would have been a big bite, one thing though I found a place where the large Tarpon were rolling around on the surface in 66 degree water but they wouldnt bite--go figure they shouldnt even be here in the numbers I saw this time of year!
I generally dont have those kind of trips but I must be fair and report it all but by the end of the trip the water temp was rapidly coming up and things today in the backcountry have improved-- they are starting to bite somewhat a day or two more and the fishing should be back to normal and they will be biting their heads off.
These are tropical fish and begin to go dormant when it gets cold that fast as soon as it warms up things go back to normal.
There are a lot of benefits to having a front like that, for one it blows the dead matter off the bottom and allows new growth of algae and grass that was being choked off before much like a fire in the woods allows new growth of trees and bushes that would not have had a chance to survive otherwise.
It redistributes nutrients and provides food for the smallest members of the food chain which in turn attracts the bigger species and then the ones we want to target.
So I tend to be happy and sad when this happens--- happy for the ecology and sad for the loss of trips but in the long run we all will benefit from these fronts in one form or another.
I am back in shorts and tees today, put the quilt back in its space bag [they do work by the way] and ready to tackle 2008 will renewed vengeance.
Lets go fishing gang if you would like to make a res or ask some questions give me a call toll free and I will be happy to answer all-- 1-800-783-8489
Looking forward to hearing from you in 2008, remember send your pictures I want to add them on my web sites
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND MAY IT BE PROSPEROUS FOR ALL

pre-Christmas report |
|
Boy --have I been a bad Captain not keeping up the reports since August someone should have reminded me.
Oh Well, since my last report the fishing has for the most part been very good.
I slow down after Sept. trip wise because the kiddies go back to school but the fishing doesnt slow down much.
As I said the Islamorada fishing has been good we have been catching lots of Snook and Redfish with trout ladyfish and jacks, mangrove snapper and jewfish mixed in.
Quite the mixed bag and on light spinning tackle they are a blast.
The Spanish Mackerel have moved in the gulf of Mexico and are biting fairly well, we have been getting 10-20 a trip with a smattering of trout , and various snappers mixed in --havent seen much in the way of triple tail yet but any day now.
Closer to home I have been catching a few Snook, an odd tarpon, large Jack crevelle and good size mangrove snappers around the bridges.
I also tried the other day for the Spanish Macs close to the keys and bridges and we caught a few but the Large Ladyfish, Jacks and small snappers were in full force plenty of action --great for the kids on the half day trip
I had a couple of 1/2 day bonefish trips and we managed to chum up some in the 9-10 pound class and on 10 pound spin tackle they provided some heart stopping runs before we got them to the boat.
I want to mention now That the new "Gottago II” is a 24 footer with a 225 mercury optimax and can now accommodate up to 4 people at one time.
Should you want to get out Fishing during the holidays, I still have open days so give a call toll free

sizzling report |
|
Hello everyone
This weeks report is another great one.
I can’t remember when the summertime fishing has been this hot for so long.
I am typing this very gently, my fingers are very sore; I have been in the everglades national park
Friday and Saturday and caught 123 Snook, 15 redfish, 40 -50 trout, tarpon, mang snappers, ladyfish, jacks ,black drum, jewfish, just about everything
We had 1 backcountry grand slam- one angler-catches a tarpon, snook and redfish in the same day.
I must say one thing though, most everything has been on the small side up to 24 inches and as small as 12 inches but the bite is huge and the action constant and using 6 pound spinning tackle makes them all tackle busters.
Have run out of shrimp both days and then used plastics and they were almost as good.
The big tarpon scene has been rockin and rolling also, in the last 16 tarpon trips and they are all 1/2 or 3/4 days WE have caught 1-to 5 tarpon per trip and some of them have been as large as 140 lbs.
YES THEY ARE STILL HERE!
I believe they will stay into SEPT if we don’t get any storms---- I want to let everyone know that
HURRICANE DEAN IS OF NO THREAT TO SO FLORIDA –so don’t cancel you’re plans, give me a call and I will keep you in the loop
A Lot of times even though it is so far away the fishing here just goes nuts, they can feel it way over here—so take advantage of nature for a change instead of the other way around.
That’s about it, want to book a trip then call me toll free 1-888-783-8489 and I will be more than happy to talk to you, answer questions, or take your reservation personally.
Till next report, have a great week, stay safe, and remember throw back the small ones and just keep what you can eat yourself

RE HOT ISLAMORADA REPORT |
|
Hello everybody out there in the fishing world
Get set for your Islamorada Florida Keys fishing report and if this page isnt on fire by now Then
I give up. FISHING IS ABSOUTELY THE HOTTEST I HAVE SEEN IT THIS YEAR
Go figure here it is the middle of JULY and hotter than hell and everything is biting like there wont be any food tomorrow!
The Tarpon are off the hook, I fished since last report 5 tarpon trips leaving at 6 am for either a half or 3/4 day and never missed a minimum of 2 fish per trip even had a double header ,I have been hooking up at least 4 fish per trip all the way to10 tarpon --RED HOT FISHIN!
I have also been catching mixed with the tarpon-- sharks, groupers and BARRACUDAS up to 54 pounds-- WOW! Talk about BIG TEETH!
I figured since the tarpon got here basically late due to the cooler spring water, that they would stay later, looks like it is going to happen right into August, maybe even September providing no storms come close to us.
Backcountry- well that is running wild also,
The snook and redfish are all over in big numbers and The fish are not for the most part really large but you catch a lot of them, Mondays trip with 3 anglers we caught and released 41 Snook, 22 redfish, 6 jewfish, mangrove snappers, trout, jacks and ladyfish and ran out of bait by 12.30
Did it again on Wednesday with a father and his 6 year old son and we got 28 snook, 6 redfish, and all the other stuff, that was a 3/4 day and as soon as we started home at noon SJ was sound asleep the whole ride in --wore him right out!
I should also mention the bugs are bad back there and bug spray is not suggested it is required!
I have days available should anyone want to take advantage of the blitz going on-- call me toll free and lets get in the old 24 ft bay boat thats takes up to 4 anglers and terrorize the fish
1-888-783-8489
THATS THE WAY IT HAS BEEN SINCE THE LAST REPORT -- THATS MY STORY AND I AM STICKING TO IT!
As always till the next report tight lines and get the kiddies out there

early July report |
|
Hello everyone from Islamorada, Florida Keys
It’s that time of year that the reports from Islamorada get few and far between
It’s not that the fishing is terrible, just the opposite, it is because business slows down.
Since the last report, the tarpon have been good especially on the 4-8 pm trip or the 6-10 am trip
Seems that even the tarpon like the early morning or early evening best.
I have also been catching some permit when the tarpon slow down and we give that a try.
In the Everglades National Park, the snook and redfish and sea trout have been doing their usual act
Biting their heads off most days.
There are also lots of lady fish, black drum, and jack crevelle swimming around to help to really keep you busy.
I have run a couple of Kid’s trips and the mangrove snapper have been cooperating as well, the larger ones
Are headed out to the reef to spawn so you run into all sizes just have to bounce around a bit.
The patch reef fishing is starting to get hot also and I think I may start doing some of that maybe by the end of the month.
So if you are coming down to Islamorada than give me a call and be happy to tie you into the species of your choice.

Pre fathers day |
|
Hello Again from Islamorada, Florida Keys
Well the Pre- Father’s day report is a mixed one.
We were unable to go out this morning due to the wind and horizontal Rain
Oh well, should get out tomorrow.
Since the last Islamorada fishing report it has been pretty darn good in the backcountry
The Snook, Redfish have been cooperating almost everyday, I guess the snook know that the season is closed and you have to let them go, they just keep biting and biting
Ready for this one the SEA TROUT fishing has been off the hook just about a fish almost every cast.
They are averaging 2-3 pounds with bigger fish thrown into the mix, we got one 4 and a half pounds and I heard of one weighing a whopping 8 ½ pounds WOW!
The big tarpon have been very good along the Islamorada side of the pond.
Yesterday we got 2 out of 3 tarpon, one was 100 and the other 90 pounds and we also got 2 out of three permit, excuse me that was 1 out of 3 permit, guess they knew about the weather ahead of time today and were stocking up on snacks
Mullet and crabs have been working well.
I have been leaving either at 6 am or doing that 4-8pm trip both has been working out well.
Since the tarpon were late arriving in full force this year I expect the season will be a late one, maybe right into September if the you know whats don’t hit us.
Bout it for now
Give me a call toll free if you feel like being abused by a very large SILVER KING LOL—1-888-783-8489
Talk to you at the next report GOD willing and the creek don’t rise

quick report from Islamorada |
|
Hello from Islamorada, Florida keys
Well the weather is in summertime patterns, fishing is in summertime patterns, we are in summertime mode so here goes.
The tarpon first, they are here in full force and the bite is getting better and better as we leave the new moon behind us, they are everywhere we go—out front , the bridges, in the channels, backcountry just everywhere!
The bite seems best early morning [6am leave] and the evening trip [4-8pm] at the moment. I have lots of 4-8pm slots open if anyone is interested in that trip.
In the backcountry most trips have been excellent, snook, redfish, Sea trout have all been doing very well. The “bend the rod trip” has been insane!
The half day “bend the rod trip” where we can’t go as far as a full day have been excellent, caught over 70 fish for 2 people yesterday so if you don’t want a full day due to the heat that’s the ticket for you and the kiddies also.
Just going to be a quick Islamorada report today as I have many errands to do on my day off but is that really a day off! LOL
LET’S GO FISHING FOLKS!

this week in fishingin Islamorada |
|
Calling all fishermen and women
This week here in Islamorada, Florida keys- it was an interesting one to say the least!
The water has warmed up 86 degrees and the big TARPON are here in big numbers, we are seeing them everywhere-at the bridges, in the channels, the lakes, on the Oceanside, bayside, everywhere but it was a tough bite –reason we think the dreaded FULL MOON! As soon as the moon started waning they started to bite and bite their heads off.
My best trip was 4 out of 6 and that was a half day
I ran two 4-7 pm trips and caught well also.
So I guess the tarpon bite is finally on –Let’s go catching –still days available especially the evening 4-7 time frame
As I do more and more tarpon trips, the Backcountry reports will wind down for a bit
The Flamingo Area is still producing good numbers of fish the action is good but again due to the moon slightly off this week
Snook, Reds, sea trout, jacks, ladyfish some nice size Mangroves mixed in are cooperating fairly well.
Busy fishing for sure.
Got to cut this short and get ready for an evening of tarpon mania

Hello Anglers and Anglerettes
This week’s fishing report from Islamorada in the fabulous Florida Keys is now on line.
Where to start well the backcountry is still on fire ,the only thing hotter are the brush fires out in the glades--seriously the fishing in the Everglades National Park is great, we are catching everything--tarpon[both baby and full grown]snook, redfish, sea trout, jacks, mang snappers, you name it and it is being caught. We have had some great snookin just about every trip, anywhere from 2-18 just cant describe it enough with out sounding like the same repetitive report.
The weather has been breezy to say the least but the new 24 ft Bay Stealth just eats up the chop and gets there quickly. 1-4 people it doesnt matter!
On the Islamorada side of the bay, the big tarpon have been off and on since the last report, we had some minor fronts from the north and it has held them up just a bit. They are here just a sporadic bite. Mostly in the early evening so I am now taking reservations for 4-8 pm sunset tarpon trips.
I have been catching a few in the day but just branching out a bit to stay in the game.
The latest report I had was yesterday-4/29 and they bit during the Morning, mullet, pins and crabs seem to be best. It was hot yesterday and the water was starting to warm up some still borderline but it is hot again today already in the 80s so things could bust loose anytime.
Some bonefish and permit action as well --got a report of some good permit caught on the local wrecks on the reef --30 pound plus fish --bruisers
well that is about all for now should you want to get out for that trophy fish or just catch a little dinner call toll free 1-888-783-8489 and I will be happy to answer your questions or take your reservation personally.
Thanks and tight lines to all of you

Easter Sunday report |
|
Hello Again--- Happy Easter Sunday from the Florida Keys
This week in Islamorada fishing has again been absolutely fantastic
What do you want to hear about Snook? Tarpon?
Well it has all been good, I made my first 2 tarpon trips this week and Caught a total of 3 fish up to 120 pounds --I am ecstatic that we did this well so early in the season, caught them all on dead bait on the bottom and I cant wait for my next Tarpon trip. The 120 pound fish took us an hour and 20 minutes to get to the boat; it was just a very acrobatic fish jumping high in the air 9 times in the first 10 minutes -- a real high flyer that one.
Back in the Everglades National Park the snook fishing has been good but most of the fish are in the 20 to 26 inch size but on 6 pound test they put up a battle worthy of the best of them.
Mixed in while fishing for the snook are the redfish, black drum, ladyfish, jack crevelles
Sea trout fishing has been good also; lots of fish, mixed in size from the shorts to when you get lucky and find a bunch of large ones but plenty of action.
When you can get to the edge of the reef or on the inshore patches the yellowtail snapper have been excellent, fish in the 3 to 4 pound class not uncommon, limiting out most of the time also you get a smattering of groupers although most are throw backs. Throw in some of those delectable porgies and you have got a fine dinner.
Offshore now the Dolphin fishing has been up and down with a handful of Wahoo and black fin tuna thrown in to boot.
Everything will just get better and better as the weather calms down more and the water starts it warm up.
The new 24 fter I mentioned last week is working out extremely well and it has been bloodied well with snook, tarpon, black drum ,redfish, trout and everything but the reef fish.
I will start that aspect as the weather calms; we will get out into the ocean and do battle with Islamorada Reef fish.
Islamorada is the place to really catch a multitude of different fish.
I mentioned last week about Holiday Isle being redeveloped, well things have changed again and we have been informed that it will remain the same with major infusion of capital , there will be major upgrades to the hotel rooms and property. It will remain the same and will be a great place to take your vacations and bring your business clients once again.
So if you havent made your plans yet, I still have availabity just give me a call toll free and I will be happy to answer your questions or take your reservation personally--1-888-783-8484
Also the number for HOLIDAY ISLE RESORT AND MARINA is 305-664-2321 should you like to make a reservation there.
See you next week
Tight line and hope to see you soon

march 07 report |

It has been a long time since I updated the report but been very busy --I am sorry about that.
The fishing has been just fantastic.
The Everglades National Park has been alive with fish-- Snook, Redfish, Sea trout and all other species have been on fire.
Islamorada has had a mild winter for the most part temperture wise , just a bit on the breezy side a bit.
it sure beats the weather "up north"
Water temps are up and even the Tarpon have been showing themselves, not a lot yet but there-- had 2 small ones yesterday along with 3 snook,2 redfish, 10
big black drum[cousins of redfish} a hand full of trout and ladyfish, jacks and pompano.Ther has been constant action here in the Florida Keys as I said the "big Tarpon " are showing up between fronts and a few are being caught here and there you have to put the time in.
The main vein of Tarpon are on their way wont be long now.
Lots of Snappers and trout around for the kiddies --take em fishing Dad!
I mentioned about getting a larger backcountry skiff and I have-- a 24 ft to be exact with a 225 Mercury optimax for power; can now accomadate up to 4 passengers
no need to leave someone home now also families and small groups or business associates can all fish together in the same boat if you want.

November Report |
|
Well Due to a very quiet Islamorada, Florida keys summer-- No Hurricanes, everyone decided to stay home
Cant figure that one out at all.
Maybe shell shock from the past hurricane seasons.
Well fishing was good when I did get out, Plenty of tarpon, snook , redfish, sea trout and so forth.
Right now Snook and redfish fishing have been very, very good, big trout are starting to move in! The normal fall Florida keys fishing as the water cools off and the fish get into the winter patterns.
The Spanish Mackerl are starting to get hot again with a few cobia every now and then. A couple of more of these light cool fronts and it will bust loose.
Everything will really bust loose all indications at this point , it is going to be one hell of a fishing year.
The mangrove snapper fishing has been good also, almost fish fry time Guys.
As I have mentioned to my customers I have been looking for a larger Skiff to accomadate the many requests I have been getting to take 4 people out on the charters. I will be able to take more families[children are always welcome] and small groups, well I am happy to say I have gotten a 24 foot VIP BAY STEALTH with a 225 HP Mercury Optimax.
I am in the process of outfitting it now and making some changes to it to make it an Ideal fishing machine.
You will start to get an offshore fishing report also here, as on nice days I will be able to target the REEF SPECIES also, Sailfishing, Snappers, groupers, kingfish and in the summertime Dolphin, wahoo, tuna ect.
I will also be fishing more into the gulf of mexico and the west edge of florida.
I will change the web site to reflect the new boat shortly as soon as I get it into service.
Many thanks to those of you who sent me pictures , I will get them up as soon as I make my web changes.
Looking forward to hearing from you all in 07 ,it is going to be an interesting year with the new boat.
Hope to see you all soon if you have any questions please call me toll free and I will be happy to answer them or take a reservation personaly

August report |
backcountry fishing |
|
Well it is that time of year where somethings slow down and others pick up.
The tarpon are still here but have slowed down quite a bit, it is an early morning show and the size of the fish have gotten smaller- they are averaging in the 60 pound range. I am still leaving at about 6.30 am and back to the dock
by 10.30am ,it is an early morning show when it is cooler and quiet, then it is over so figure an early AM half for that.
In the Everglades National Park we have been catching good numbers of Sea Trout, from very small to 25-26 inches some days, along with them we are catching ladyfish, jack crevelles using 6 pound or 10 pound spinning they fight real hard, this can be done on a half day if you just want to get out early and beat the heat of the day. Further back on the full day trip for the hearty [can take the heat] I have been catching good numbers of Snook most days with some redfish, pompano, jewfish, trout and jacks mixed in {snook season is closed ,we can catch but must throw back] Now here is the rub
SHARKS-- big ones , they are eating as many hooked snook as we catch . These sharks are so big that I dont even have Tackle big enough to catch them. So we catch a few then when the sharks take over we go do something else.
The mangrove snapper fishing remaines good if you want some for eating ,the kids love to catch them also.
I have not been bonefishing all summer, the water has been very warm and I have been just looking for a lot of action for the customers.
So far the HURRICANE threat has been non exsistent, thank the good lord for that.
weather has been hot and sunny most days with just a few showers around so bring a light rain jacket with you.
Call me toll free for a persoalized report taylored to when you are going to be here. 1-888-783-8489
Please Please send your pictures that you took, I want them for my web site

end of June Islamoradafishing report |
|
Hello all you fisherman ,woman and children
Fishing as been excellent since the last Islamorada Florida Keys report.
Tarpon fishing was slow for a week or so but the snook picked up the slack or the Sea Trout and Ladyfish and so on. The conclusion about the slow Tarpon Bite--- they were spawning and they are back to normal now, the last 4 trips have been halfdays and we caught up to 3 per trip, my secert leaving early[6am] and we are back[10am] before the heat starts and the boat traffic puts the tarpon down .
The Everglades National Park has produced lots and lots of Snook and Sea Trout, ladyfish and jacks.
We have caught up to 18 Snook per trip, but the sharks have been bad ,eating the hooked snook before we we can get them to the boat.So if we caught 18 then you can only guess how many we were losing to the Sharks when it gets to bad I just leave and do something else, no point in letting the sharks have such a delious meal is there.
The Sea trout have been really good and I have had some great kids out catching them on 6 pound test line.
All I see are "miles of smiles and it makes their vacation a roaring success.
Caught a few large permit also out on the reef and when the conditions are right off we go.
Most of my trips though have been for the TARPON everyone wants to do battle with the SILVER KING.
Becuase of the heat like I mentioned earlier I am doing half days for the tarpon and half or 3/4 days for the back country mainly for the trout the snook you need a full day becuase you have to catch live bait for them.
Tarpon are still going strong and I see them being around the Islamorada Area till At least August barring any adverse weather.
I have days open in July if anyone wants to pull on a 80 to a 100 pound tarpon give me a call toll free and we will arrange a trip for you. 1-888-783-8489
Till next time --

Hello to yaall fisherpeople out there
Since the last Islamorada, Florida keys fishing report a while back ,I have been very busy ,booked everyday and fishing here in Islamorada has been for the most part good.
Tarpon fishing has been up and down these past 10 days there has been no reason for it that I can determine they just werent cooperating very well , I am very happy to report it looks like that is over, the last 3 days it has been getting very good again-- yesterday we hooked 4 before 9 am fish up to 135 pounds and also got the usual assortment of sharks ,cudas and grouper-- the Barracudas have been ranging in size up to 45 pounds real slammers. At first glance when they jump they are confused for small tarpon they are that BIG == lots of fun.
I have only gone into the Everglades National Park but 3 times and it was mostly for a 1/2 day to takes the smaller kids fishing for Sea trout which they can handle very well, and they kicked thier butts real good.
once they get the knack of cast and retrieve they really get off on catching the 1-2 pound trout, smiles all around.
I can only report on what I heard but snook fishing and redfishing has been good in the back channels and bites and lakes.
There have been permit around when looking for the elusive bonefish and when it is calm enough you can sneak off to the rockpiles and find a few permit.
Hope to try that tomorrow myself.
June has open days available with a couple of Sat and Suns open so come on down and get in on the fun.
It is starting to get to the time of year that I recommend fishing Early half days and 3/4 days, this way we get the early morning bite and are back before the sun gets blazing hot-- leave at 6 am and back in by 10am on a half and back by noon on a 3/4 ,I have also added an evening trip for tarpon 4pm to 8pm
just trying to keep it as comfortable as possible for yaall.

May tarpon report |

Hello fishermem and fisherladies
The Islamorada fishing report is excellent this month, most everything is biting their heads off. The weather in the Flroida keys couldnt be better also, warm, 80s, sunny and gentle Keys breezes.
The tarpon fishing is slammin! I have only had 1 trip which I did not catch one that is unbelieveable. The Tarpon are all over the Islamorada bridges, channels lakes and cuts.
Biggest one I have gotten so far is afat one about 145 pounds but their have been several hooked up and caught 200 or better-- real tackle busters! Live bait, dead bait both are working well and things should just get better and better
Lets go fishing people!
In the back country the snook bite is grest, trout, ladyfish, jacks everything is well, SLAMING!
Bonefish and permit are around also but I have not been fishing for them, good reports though.
I have had 2 cancellations -- one - May 13th-May 18th and the 29th -the 31st.
there are still a couple of days scattered around so give a call and catch your own "SILVER KING" if I am booked I will try to find you a top notch guide so you can get in on the fun

Hello Again from the beautiful Florida Keys
The weather In Islamorada has been in the 80s most days and low 70s at night, the water is finally beginning to warm up
Since the last Islamorada Fishing report a lot has been going on.
The backcountry fishing has been nothing less than fantastic-- mainly
the Snook fishing. We have been catching up to 19 per day ,the largest fish was a whopping 36 inch fish and weighed in at 14 pounds, not bad for 10 pound spin.
We have been using live bait and just catchin ,catchin, catchin!
Also mixed in are the redfish, sea Trout, and jacks--plenty of action .
Sea Trout fishing has been excellent, catch your limit and a lot of large fish to boot.Redfish Still a little slow but improving.
Spanish Mackerl have slowed down a little but it is expected as they move back out into the gulf of Mexico this time of year and migrate up the coast to the panhandle
We did a 4 boat fish fry a few days ago and we caught more mangrove snapper than we could eat, they were that large. Bonefishing has been picking up with the warmer water temps and they are getting more active and we are seeing more large schools of fish but getting them to bite has been another thing as the temps get higher they should bite much better.
Tarpon are around and just finicky, we fished for them this morning and caught 1 about 90 pounds and 3 sharks--- first of the 06 season yeah! I also saw many fish traveling and rolling in the spot I was In.
This means they should just get better and better from here on in.
Got another tarpon trip tomorrow, once you catch a few it will be very hard to get a trip
So make your plans now and get your reservation for the Silver King of a lifetime.

Islamorada florida keys report |
|
Hello from Islamorada, Florida Keys
Since my last report, things are heating up in the Everglades National Park.
The snook, redfish and sea trout fishing is getting better and better, the redfish are still slow though.
Snook fishing has gotten a lot better with catching --to the boat that is of up to 10 per day, The fish size wise up to about 9 pounds or so, still many border line sized fish also, On 6 or 10 pound test they all fight hard.
Sea trout man o man they have been some of the largest I have seen in a long time.
We caught trout to 4 and a half pounds, plus all the throw backs--- ready for this the throw backs Im talking about are TOO BIG!- over the slot size, dont know how long it will last but Im happy they are there.
Still catching the jack crevelles, ladyfish and occassional pompano also.
A great Mixed bag type of day!
Have not been bonefishing at all , most people have wanted the ACTION TYPE DAY SO I dont know what is happening there but I have heard there is a few Big permit around here and there.
The tarpon have dissappeared again but this is normal for this time of year-- here today gone tomorrow-- everyone always wants to rush the season ,they are antsy after the winter and want to catch the SILVER KING.
Well folks as soon as the bite is on ,you will find the tarpon report in large caps --in the first paragragh!
Dates are beginning to fly off the book so if you want to book your trip for late April, May and June [ the prime time} then you should do so now before they are gone--caLL TOLL FREE-- 1-888-783-8489

new fishing report |

Hello Anglers , Captain Cliff here from Islamorada, Florida keys
Things beginning to heat up down here the fronts have been mild and just get temporary set backs from them lasting about a day or so.
The news from the backcountry is Sea trout are starting to bite with regularity and some 4-6 pound fish have been caught , mixed in have been your jack crevelles, Ladyfish and once in a while a pompano or two.
While fishing for the snook and redfish there have been some nice size Black drum also. the snook have either been throw backs or real lunkers screaming out and almost stripping the reels. Redfish up to 8 pounds are mixed in but most are small.
I have been fishing close to home [30 minutes or less} and catching the spanish mackerl Jack crevelles and some of the largest ladyfish I have seen in many years, the poor mans tarpon have been up to 4 pounds and you think you got a whale on your line when they slam the bait. The mackerl have been small all the way up to 6-7 pounds and on 6 pound test they are a ball , this has been the half day trip mostly ,you get lots of fishing time and plenty of bites, we have caught as many as 70 fish total in a trip , can hardly keep the lines baited and the rods rigged. There have been small black tipped and bonnethead sharks mixed in too .So there is plenty to do!
I have not been bonefishing so all I can tell you is it has been hit or miss from what the other guides are saying!
OK, Ok ,OK what you are all waiting for--THE TARPON are showing up and are just starting to bite the water temp is marginal but since the mullet are beginning to show up so are the tarpon, just need a little more warm weather and things should explode. I myself have not caught any but I havent been fishing for them either ,I just keep seeing them in all the usual haunts.
Still choice dates available call for availabilty--toll free--1-888-783-8489
Till next Islamorada report, this captain cliff saying get those kids fishing!

Hello everyone
just some new reports for you
Islamorada has been under seize, with cold fronts but fishing in between them has been excellent with the spanish macherl and sea trout being the old stand bys with a few black drum to boot. MAcs and sea trout on light tackle is a blast.
The fishing for the snook reds bones has been slow due to the cool water temp,it should pick up as the weather gets better ,this is just our usual winter weather.
The phone is starting to ring off the hook for tarpon season so if you are thinking about catching those 100 pound + silver kings you should be getting your ducks in a row now folks.
give a call for info -toll free -1-888-783-8489
Thats all for now ,hope to have a new report after this week end by the way the air temps have been in the low 60s at night and 70s by midday if you are interested

feb 06 report` |
|
Well here it is feb and the season is starting off pretty good here in Islamorada.
Snook Season arrived yesterday and it was slow as usual ,the snook seem to know when the bullseye is on them, it will take a few days for them to settle down and start biting again ,the first few days everyone wants to catch them so they get beat up pretty good.Everything back to normal maybe by the weekend.
Sea trout and Redfish have been spotty but when you find them the bite is on , they have just been scattered in small bunches so you have to keep bouncing around. There have been some small tarpon here and there and on the nice warm days they bite live bait seems to be working best.
Took some young kids out a few days ago with thier dad and caught the old standby Mangrove Snappers , they had a ball --small ones big ones didnt matter the smiles were a mile wide-- donr forget the kiddies they like to fish too!
Spanish Macherl have been biting very well maybe the best and most consistant, there have been bluefish, cobia, permit, pompano mixed in along with jacks, ladyfish and sea trout so the action is fast most days. You just need the calmer weather to get to where they are and be able to anchor the boat up.
All this action is taking place mostly in the Everglades National Park, to do it right a full day is best due to travel time.
Closer to the Islamorada flats fishing for bonefish/permit action has been slow but that is just due to the cold water we have right now ,a couple of warm days and the water will warm up and they will be back on track, half or 3/4 days are best there if the fish are coming fast then a full day may be the ticket depending on the tide.
This is all typical florida keys fishing this time of year ,you have to be able to adjust to the florida keys weather, cant do one thing switch to another, just plain normal for Islamorada.
Captcliff.com reports will be more regular from here on in as I will be getting out much more regular and have more to report here.
By the way the temp today is 75 degrees

Christmas time in Islamorada, Florida |
|
Hello Happy Holidays to all
Time for a new report ,hurricanes are over Thank the good lord and the fishermaen and Ladies arer starting to return to Islamorada for the Holidays and the New Year.
Backcountry fishing has been fair to excellent, good catches all round, Snook ,Redfish, Sea trout, the old mainstays have been cooperating well.
Spanish Mackerl have shown up and you can walk on them,a lot of Biggies there, 5-7 pound macks on 6 pound tackle can tear you up in a hurry, as long as you have current they bite, the current is the only deciding factor there on the bite.
There have been also some bluefish, sea trout and redfish mixed in but the main attraction the MACKS!
The Islamorada Flats have been hot one day and cold the next for bonefish but that is normal as the bonefish snap thier heads off just before the fronts and then take a break so you have to fish accordingly.
The tarpon fishermen have started to come out of the woodwork again with the nice weather and asking about the big tarpon --soerry guys the water is cold and they ewont be here till springtime, however I have been finding some smaller cousins ocassionaly in the backcountry, not everywhere but here and there and when the fronts come through --"Gone in 60 seconds"
As the fishermen start getting fed up with the cold and snow up north and they start Jonesin for a bent rod in thier hands instead of a snow shovel the reports will start being more frequent.---Wont be long now!
Till I got more to say
Have a happy holiday and remember to get the kiddies that new rod and reel they have asked for, throw one in for yourself too!

mid august report |

Hello Again Capt Cliff Here--Gottago II Charters
There has been no islamorada reports since mid June, my fault Im sorry.
The Tarpon fishing was excellent all through June. July came along and Hurricane Dennis past way offshore of us and I needed emergency eye surgery hence No report as I wasnt fishing.
Im back to work the last 3 days and am glad of it-going stir crazy.
On 8/11 I fished Lothar, wife Mandy, daughter Josie Nessmann in the backcountry and we caught 1 redfish, 1 tarpon ,5 or 6 Sea trout and 45-50 mangrove snapper, ladyfish and a few jacks on 6 pound spinning tackle.A 3/4 day we were back by noon time, we beat the heat--in the low 90s.
8/12 we went out again on Friday for big tarpon and we were sucessful again, caught 2 one about 45 pounds and the second fish was 105 or better put me to my knees twice trying to release him or her. we also caught 6 sharks of various sizes again a 3/4 day and home. I sure hope the videos turn out as I am promised a copy for the web site.
Did I mention Nessmanns are from Hong Kong.
Today I fished Mike and Vivian Zeoli of Ft. Lauderdale, had another red letter 3/4 day -- Weather beautiful ,light wind and one hell of a 3/4 in the Everglades National Park.
We stopped in one hole and just stayed there the action was constant. We were again using 6 pound spinning tackle and the rods were bent double. Mike wanted to catch as many different species as possible and luck was with the both of them.
We caught 5 snook--the largest 29 inches ,5 redfish small to medium, 10 or so trout,1 permit, 1 black drum,15 or so mangrove snappers, 3 jack crevelles, 2 small jewfish[ they will always be Jewfish to me} 1 sheapshead, half a dozen ladyfish boy my fingers are starting to hurt here from the typing but it was one heck of a trip, we ran out of bait by 11:15 and went home. Vivian ended up with a backcounrty Slam--Tarpon, Snook ,Redfish,Trout.nice going VIV!
Well thats pretty much it there are still big tarpon in Islamorada ,I dont know for how long but if condions are right then they should bite, the Florida Keys backcounrty is pretty darn good also.
Come on down bring the Kiddies ,wives and fishing buddies give me a call

mid June Report |
|
Hey there
I dont know what to say that I dont sound like a broken Islamorada record.
TARPON, TARPON, TARPON, TARPON, TARPON oops a broken record!
Well lets not fix it, they are still here and they are still biting.
I am fishing early and getting back early with 1 -3 fish per trip!
I have had only 1 trip where we have not at least hooked one.
Fish are still averaging 100 pounds and they show no signs of slowing down.
Bait or fly both are producing tarpon in the fabulous Florida Keys.
I have only been in the backcountry 3 times since the last report and the
trout bite has been excellent.
Today 6/24/05 we caught from 50 to 75 fish up to 3 1/2 pounds on 6 pound spin,
a half day at that. Dont forget the kids,a 1/2 day light tackle spin for these fish are just the summertime ticket--fish in the morning ,swimming pool in the afternoon it couldnt be any better.
Snook have been off and on with some redfish thrown in, I havent been but the reports sound pretty good.
There is lots to catch in the summer if you are flexible and roll with the tides and weather.
July is looking good for everything so lets hear from you.
Book a trip!

June fishing report |

Hello Again
Fishing has been excellent this past month overall.
The Tarpon have been cooperating with most trips catching 1-3 Giant Tarpon.
Biggest fish caught- a fat 140 pound sow, it took 1 hour and 10 minutes on 30 pound tackle to bring her to the boat.Fly fishing has picked up with plenty of fish going by with lots of shots but making them eat is a lot more challenging.
I have been leaving early and getting back early trying to beat the heat also as the sun gets higher the bite slows down. There have been plenty of Sharks, sawfish ,barracudas and small groupers to keep you busy waiting for the GIANT SILVER KING to bite.
Snook has picked up this past week with fish almost to big[ over 32 inches]
The season is closed now till Sept 1 but you can still enjoy catching them and having the satisfaction kniowing that after you release them they will be there for next time around.
Sea trout and Redfish have been good and fair in that order, trout are plentiful and the Redfish starting to show much more consistantly.
The big Mangrove Snapper are around the Islamorada Bridges with a smattering of undersize grouper thrown in.
The Bones, the Bones what about the elusive "Grey Ghost of the Flats" well they seem to be just that elusive but they are getting more consistant in the mornings before the sun gets to high and the flats get to hot. There have been a few BIG fish caught in the 12-14 pound class with one report of a 151/2 pounder released.
I am still mainly Tarpon Fishing most trips and it looks like that is the perfered species just now.
There are still days available for charter just give a call toll free and set up your trip. 1-888-783-8489
Till next time ,tight lines and keep sending your pictures the photo gallery will be updated soon

Bit late but here it is
Tarpon have been RED HOT!
The fish are averaging 1`00 pounds and we have been catching them
up to 150 pounds.
That guy was a Bruteon 30 lb. line, it took about 1 and 1/2 hours to cartch him.
He was relased unharmed after a photo Shoot at the rail.
DONT FORGET TO SEND A COPY FOR THE WEB SITE, BILL!
We have been getting anywhere from 1 to 4 a trip.
Live bait or dead baits are working ,Im favoring the dead though.
Backcountry has beren good with lots of Sea trout, Jack Crevelle, and ladyfish with a smattering of Snook and Redfish thrown in. Great for the Kiddies, lots of action.
Bonefish have been up and down, I must admit I have been mainly Tarpon fishing so I dont have much to report there.
There are still a few days left in MAY--- 23rd, 26th, 30th and 31st so try to get in on the action.
June has days available also so book them up remember that the Tarpon are here through JULY. Caught my last one last year August 17th
so come on down
Till next time tight lines and put a smile on your kids face take him fishing anywhere, he will have a ball.
