| Permit are another crafty Islamorada flats fish, they downright make bonefish look easy in comparison!
They also like structure from wrecks and rockpiles to bridges and hard bottom.'
Shrimp and crabs are the best baits, you can catch them on a fly also.Frequently when using a crab Tarpon fishing you will hook a permit.
The average size is 15-19 lbs., they have big eyes and don't need glasses at all, they have some of the sharpest eyes in the sea and their hearing is excellent also.
You find them sometimes on the edges of flats while bonefishing, they will get right up on top of the flats at times when the water is deep enough for them, the bigger they are the more depth they need.
They will 'Tail " like a bonefish with their heads down mudding away for crabs and Shrimp.
You have to be very quiet and stealthy should you find them there.
your tackle can be the same as bonefish but have a 15 lb.outfit ready to throw if that 35 or 40 pounder pops up.
